Daily Video Game News Blog 09/21/20

Hello internet! Man, do we have some news today. With preorders for the new Xbox series X literally a day away Microsoft makes a HUGE announcement. Microsoft has now acquired Zenimax Studios and all its subsidiaries including Bethesda for 7.5 BILLION DOLLARS. Which to put in perspective, that’s almost as much as what Disney paid for Marvel and Star Wars COMBINED. (8.5 Billion)

They announced that all the studios new games will be available on gamepass day one of release and that all the new games will be exclusive on a Case-by-Case basis. Meaning they could make them exclusive to the Xbox, but they aren’t sure if they are going to or not. Also, they will be using some new engines for their upcoming games.

To me, this sounds amazing. Bethesda has been slowly driving themselves headfirst into the ground with all the bad PR around some of their recent releases. Honestly, I’m not sure that Microsoft could make Bethesda any more hated than they have already done themselves. This was a big swing for Microsoft to really push their gamepass subscription and the fact they did this announcement one day before the preorders of their new console launch is no coincidence.

The negative side to this story is the fact that they spent 7.5 Billion on this company. Which clearly shows you how much money is in the gaming industry and yet they are still deciding to raise the price of the next gen games to 70$. Hopefully, Microsoft continues its consumer-friendly marketing stunts and help the gamers that don’t have the ability to get these 70$ games. We shall have to wait and see.

To those that think this is a bad move for Microsoft and think that they are going to ruin the company. The companies that they have already acquired have put out some pretty good games, Hellblade, and Outer Worlds to name a few. Yet some of the companies Microsoft owns have put out some bad ones, Banjo Kazooie comes rushing back to me as I try to forget about it. So, I’m not really sure how this will play out but pretty much anything could be better than what Bethesda has been doing on their own, with the exception of Doom and Dishonored. Is this a last-ditch effort for Microsoft? I don’t think so, they’ve already given up on the console war in my opinion when they announced all their exclusives will be on PC and that most the new games will still be on the previous console generation. As well as the fact that they pushed back their big console seller, Halo.

That’s the news for today. I am trying to get better at writing more often and it really helps me if you comment or react to see if people are reading. I am most likely going to make posts every weekday and off on the weekends. Hopefully, that will keep me doing this. Thank you for reading! What do you think about this news? Lemme know in the comments!

  • Yeah I think Microsoft is instead of making these games exclusive they are going to use them as a bargaining chip to convince Sony to stop making games exclusive to PS5, because Microsoft could just be like you know all those games that you were looking forward to playing on your Sony console? NOPE they Xbox and PC exclusive now. What you gonna do Sony? The y essentially want to kill the exclusive market, which in my opinion is awesome, because instead of games selling the consoles, the consoles actually have to be good so you can sell them. If you liked my Microsoft posts you should read my ones about Sony and Nintendo, or maybe just watch my videos on them.

  • It’s a strong move from Microsoft. I’m more a Playstation and Nintendo player (those exclusives for each are hard to beat), but it’s hard to doubt that this was a smart play. Bethesda has made some trash here recently it’s true (Fallout 76) but they have some loyal fans, myself included cuz I played the hell out of Fallout 4 and lots of people like Elder Scrolls. Will they makes those franchises and others like Doom, Wolfenstein, Dishonored etc. console exclusive? Hard to say. If they make them available to play on PC as well it kind of cuts out the Xbox, as the PC will likely have just a better performance overall. I get that it helps their overall Xbox brand and helps push Games Pass as an unbeatable deal (and really it is a badass deal). I read your post too on Microsoft being first of the worst heh, I will say before this acquisition things weren’t looking as healthy for the new Xbox, but after it dies help them a little more I think. Time will tell, looking forward to how it all shapes out. Enjoying these posts.

  • Hey, read this post after reading your post about Microsoft first in being worst. It’s hard to say how this will move things for Microsoft going forward. Personally speaking, I’m a bigger Playstation (and Nintendo) fan, they have games exclusive to them that yell out to me more I guess. I will say though that after this announcement and move from Microsoft, I can def see how it may sway someone who is undecided. While they have put out some games that are filled with trash as of late (Fallout 76) like you said they do own companies that have put out some good stuff, like ID Software with Doom. If they make different series like Elder Scrolls and Fallout console exclusive, it could def help them out in the future. Those are games that for sure I would want to play. That being said, if they are also available on PC, then I really don’t understand why the purchase. If it is just about the Xbox brand and their Games Pass library it’s a strong move, but if it won’t be console exclusive, the move loses a little strength I feel. It’s a trip to see how all things are shaking out with this generation, but I’m looking forward to seeing how it plays out. Enjoying these posts bro, including what I agree with and disagree with heh.
